What is the purpose of the PECO Service and Meter Application form?

The PECO Service and Meter Application form is used to request electric service and meter installation from PECO. It serves as a formal application that provides necessary information about the customer, service location, and the type of electrical service needed. This application is essential for ensuring that PECO can process requests efficiently and accurately.

What information is required to complete the application?

To complete the application, you must provide your name, service location, and either your Driver's License Number or Social Security Number. Additionally, you need to include your PECO billing address or account number, details about the electrician or contractor, and the type of service requested. Specific load characteristics and motor information are also required, along with any additional comments you may have.

How do I submit the application?

You can submit the completed application by mailing or faxing it to the appropriate PECO regional office based on your service location. Ensure that you have checked the correct regional office box on the form to avoid delays in processing.

What happens if I do not provide all the required information?

Incomplete applications may lead to delays in processing. It is crucial to provide all requested information accurately to ensure a smooth application process. PECO may contact you for additional information if necessary, which could further extend the processing time.

Is there a specific timeframe for receiving a response after submitting the application?

PECO reserves the right to cancel your request if no further communication is received from you within 90 days of their response date. Therefore, it is important to monitor your application status and respond promptly to any inquiries from PECO.

What should I do if I need to demolish a building?

If you are demolishing a building and need PECO to remove electric or gas facilities, you must call 8-1-1 (PA One Call) to initiate a demolition request. This step is crucial for ensuring that all safety protocols are followed during the demolition process.

Can I apply for service if I have not had PECO service in the last 60 days?

If you have not had PECO service within the last 60 days, you must complete a credit application and agreement as part of your request. This requirement helps PECO assess your eligibility for service and any associated terms.

What should I do if I have additional comments or special requests?

You can include any additional comments or special requests in the designated section of the application. Providing this information helps PECO understand your specific needs and can facilitate a more tailored service experience.

Common mistakes

  1. Not Reading Instructions Carefully: Many applicants overlook the initial instructions provided at the top of the application. This can lead to incomplete submissions or incorrect information being provided.

  2. Incorrect Regional Office Selection: Applicants sometimes fail to check the appropriate box for the PECO regional office where the service is requested. This mistake can cause delays in processing the application.

  3. Missing Required Identification: It's essential to include either a Driver's License Number or Social Security Number. Omitting this information can lead to immediate rejection of the application.

  4. Inaccurate Service Address: Providing an incorrect service address can complicate the installation process. Always double-check the address and ensure it matches the location where service is needed.

  5. Neglecting to Specify Construction Status: Failing to indicate the current construction status can create confusion. It's vital to provide accurate details, including the date when service is requested.

  6. Incomplete Load Characteristic Information: The application requires detailed load characteristics, including connected KW and maximum demand for both summer and winter. Incomplete data here can hinder service planning.

  7. Forgetting to Sign and Date the Application: A common oversight is not signing or dating the application. This step is crucial for the application to be considered valid.

  8. Omitting Additional Comments: If there are specific needs or circumstances related to the service request, failing to include them can lead to misunderstandings. Use the comments section to clarify any unique situations.

Documents used along the form

When applying for electric service with PECO, several additional forms and documents may be required to ensure a smooth process. Each of these documents serves a specific purpose and helps to provide the necessary information to facilitate your application. Here is a brief overview of these important forms.

  • Site Plans: These detailed drawings illustrate the layout of the property, including the location of buildings, utilities, and other features. Site plans help PECO assess service requirements and potential installation challenges.
  • Single Line Diagram: This document provides a simplified representation of the electrical system, showing how different components are connected. It is crucial for understanding the flow of electricity and identifying any potential issues.
  • Substation Arrangement: This document outlines the configuration of the electrical substation that will serve your property. It includes information about transformers, switches, and other equipment necessary for service delivery.
  • Credit Application: If you have not had PECO service within the last 60 days, this application is necessary to establish your creditworthiness. It helps PECO determine the terms of service and any required deposits.
  • Underwriter's Certificate: This certificate verifies that your electrical installation meets local codes and standards. It is often required before service can be activated.
  • Permits: Depending on your project's scope, various permits may be required from local authorities. These permits ensure that all construction and electrical work complies with safety regulations.
  • Demolition Request: If you are demolishing a building and need PECO to remove electric or gas facilities, this request must be submitted. It ensures that all utility services are safely disconnected.

Understanding these forms and documents can help you navigate the application process with PECO more effectively. By preparing the necessary information in advance, you can minimize delays and ensure a successful service request.

Similar forms

  • Application for Electric Service: Similar to the Peco Service and Meter Application, this document also requires detailed information about the customer and service location. It includes sections for the type of service requested and specific load characteristics, ensuring accurate service provision.
  • Building Permit Application: This document requires information about the construction project, including the address and type of work being done. Like the Peco form, it emphasizes the importance of providing accurate details to avoid processing delays.
  • Utility Connection Request Form: This form is used to request connections for various utilities, including electricity and water. It shares similarities with the Peco application in that it collects customer identification and service location details.
  • Service Change Request Form: This document is used to request changes to existing utility services. It parallels the Peco form by requiring information on the current service status and the nature of the requested changes.
  • Meter Installation Request: This request form specifically addresses the installation of utility meters. It includes sections for customer details and service characteristics, similar to the Peco application which requires meter information.
  • Demolition Notification Form: This form is used when a building is being demolished and utilities need to be disconnected. It shares the requirement of providing specific details about the service location and the nature of the request, akin to the Peco application.

Dos and Don'ts

When filling out the PECO Service and Meter Application form, keep these important tips in mind:

  • Do read the instructions carefully before starting.
  • Don't leave any required fields blank; incomplete applications may delay processing.
  • Do provide accurate information, including your driver's license or social security number.
  • Don't use vague terms like "as soon as possible" for service requests; specify a clear date.
  • Do indicate your current construction status accurately.
  • Don't forget to sign and date the application; it is mandatory.
  • Do include any additional comments or specific requests that may help your application.

Misconceptions

Misconceptions about the PECO Service and Meter Application form can lead to confusion and delays in obtaining electric service. Here are six common misunderstandings:

  • Only the homeowner can submit the application. Many believe that only the property owner can fill out and submit the application. However, electricians or contractors can also submit the form on behalf of the homeowner, provided they include their Tax Identification Number.
  • Driver's license or Social Security number is optional. Some people think that providing a driver's license number or Social Security number is not necessary. In fact, this information is now a required part of the application process to ensure proper identification and service.
  • All service voltages are available everywhere. It's a common belief that any type of electric service can be requested regardless of location. However, not all service voltages are available in every area, so it's important to check with PECO about what is offered in your specific location.
  • Incompleteness won't affect the application. Some applicants might think that minor omissions won't matter. In reality, incomplete information can result in significant delays in processing the application, as PECO requires all fields to be filled out accurately.
  • The application can be submitted at any time. Many assume that they can submit the application whenever they want. However, if there is no further communication from the customer within 90 days of PECO's response, the request may be canceled. Timely follow-up is crucial.
  • Comments and additional information are not necessary. Some may think that including comments or additional details is optional. However, providing extra context or information can help PECO process the application more efficiently and address any unique circumstances related to the service request.

Key takeaways

Here are some key takeaways for filling out and using the Peco Service and Meter Application form:
