Your Questions, Answered

What is the application period for the Illinois Turkey Permit?

The application period for the Illinois Turkey Permit is divided into three lotteries. Lottery 1 runs from October 5, 2021, to December 1, 2021. Lottery 2 is from December 12, 2021, to January 11, 2022. Finally, Lottery 3 takes place from January 22, 2022, to February 9, 2022. Applications received after these deadlines will be entered into the next application period.

How many applications can I submit?

Each applicant is limited to one application for Lottery 1 and Lottery 2. However, up to three applications are allowed for Lottery 3, provided they are for group hunts. It is important to note that landowner (POH) Spring Turkey applicants or recipients are not eligible to apply in Lottery 1.

What information do I need to provide on the application?

Applicants must enter their hunt location choices and season preferences in order of preference. Additionally, personal information is required, including name, address, date of birth, Social Security Number, and IDNR Customer Number. An email address is also mandatory. If applying for a group hunt, details of the group leader must be included.

What is the cost of the permit?

The fee for an Illinois Resident Spring Wild Turkey Permit is $19. This amount will only be charged if the applicant is successful in obtaining a permit during the lottery drawing. An unfilled voided check must accompany the application as a method of payment.

Can I transfer my permit to someone else?

No, permits are not transferable. Each permit is issued to a specific individual and cannot be passed on to another person. This rule ensures that hunting privileges are properly regulated and maintained.

What are the hunting zones and season dates?

Illinois has north and south turkey hunting zones, each with different season dates. The first season in the south zone runs from April 4 to April 8, while in the north zone, it runs from April 11 to April 15. Each subsequent season has its own designated dates. Special Hunt Area permits are valid only in their respective areas and do not apply to other counties.

Misconceptions

  • 3. I can apply for any hunt location I want. Many assume they can select any county or special hunt area without restrictions. In reality, applicants must choose from specific locations based on their eligibility and the guidelines provided in the application.
  • 4. I don’t need to provide my Social Security number. Some individuals believe that providing a Social Security number is optional. In fact, the application requires this information to verify residency and eligibility, making it a crucial part of the process.
  • 5. The application fee is charged immediately. There is a common misconception that applicants will be charged the $19 fee as soon as they submit their application. Instead, the fee is only charged if the applicant is successful in the lottery drawing.
